Mount Shasta

July 2020. My first longer solo camping trip. It was 4th of July weekend 2020 and a big group of my friends all wanted to get together for a big group camping trip. I decided I wasn’t that into such a big group thing smack dab in the middle of covid, and besides, that I was really in the mood to get away from it all and have time for myself too. At this point, I had taken a few short 1 or 2 night solo camping trips, but this was the longest one yet, 4 nights. It was going to be a test of how much I’d like that much time alone in nature, and it turned out, I fucking loved it :).

Sunset over Castle Lake

An absolutely spectacular and serene view over Castle Lake. I saw people who had backpacked up and pitched a tent, and wished I had known to do that as well.

Made a mental note for myself about this hidden gem of a backpacking spot.

bye bye sun, hello moon

oh that classic california pine

Castle Dome

Crags Trail to Castle Dome. The first longer and harder solo hike I had embarked on (6 miles, 2000 ft elevation gain), and a test of if I would like it or not.

and as usual, it would turn out that I would absolutely love it :)

Just climbing up sheer rock as we approach the summit. Always my favorite part of the hike

What they call crags. The namesake of the trail

my perfect little campsite and home for the week

Waterfall chasing in Shasta County

Absolutely stunning Mossbrae Falls. Named like so because it looks like moss falling. Not so far off!

Haha, the big 4th of July groups I was trying to get away from.

Nothin’ like celebrating ‘Merica on the 4th.

McCloud Falls

And a farewell Shasta :)

You were a very good first longer solo camping trip for me.
